In Memory of Larry Abernathy

August 20, 1953 - December 15, 2017


Larry, his wife Diane, and their two sons, Josh and James, joined the church in 1989.  He served on the very first eldership helping the, then, young church establish its presence in the community, purchase the existing property, and build the very first building.  After raising his own boys he became a small group leader for a group of Jr. High boys in 2008.  He had a passion for mentoring young men and he led this group of boys from 8th grade until they graduated high school.  In 2010, Larry rejoined the eldership.  He helped the church refocus on the mission of making disciples and helped transition our leadership to focus more on strategic vision.  In 2017, Larry was part of a group that helped shape the current five year vision for Center Pointe.  He was an engineer at GE Aviation where he worked for 41 years.  Larry was looking forward to retiring from GE in March, 2018 and was planning to invest much of his free time helping Center Pointe realize this new vision.  Unfortunately, Larry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on November 16, 2017.  He passed away one month later.  One of the key phrases Larry was known for saying was “Be the standard.”  He wasn’t interested in setting the standard.  He was focused on being the standard in everything he did, from his job as an engineer, to coaching baseball, to serving as an elder, to leading his family, to making disciples.  Larry walked the halls of Center Pointe nearly every Sunday encouraging and praying for volunteers.  He was the standard for loving people.  Larry’s contribution to Center Pointe is beyond words, but some of his final words summarize it best.  His dream for Center Pointe was that we would “impact tens of thousands with the gospel.” We share his dream and we will do our best to imitate his faith.  


Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. — Ephesians 3:20-21


Shawn Spradling   

Lead Pastor and Elder


Shawn came to Center Pointe in August of 2002.  He has served in several different roles, including Worship Pastor, Adult Discipleship Pastor, and Executive Pastor, before becoming the Lead Pastor in August of 2009.  He serves as the primary leader and communicator… teaching, preaching, and casting vision for where God is leading the Center Pointe community as we live out our mission to make disciples in Liberty Township and beyond.


Shawn came to faith in Christ after graduating from high school.  He was set to attend a local university, when he encountered the life-changing gospel of Jesus.  Two months later, he was enrolled at Cincinnati Christian University, pursuing a degree in pastoral ministry.  He knew God’s call on his life was to lead others to encounter that same life-changing gospel.  He has a heart and a passion for making the church relevant, and the Bible applicable, in order to connect people to the love of Jesus.


Shawn earned a BS in Bible, and an MA in Theology from Cincinnati Christian University, but the best thing he earned there was the love and affection of a young lady named Janelle who became his wife in 1998.  They have two very active sons, Campbell and Carter.  Leading and preaching at Center Pointe is his second favorite thing to do, just behind being a husband and a dad.




Bryon Sutherly

Currently on Sabbatical

Bryon has been a partner at Center Pointe since 1989 and has served as an Elder since 2011. He is 57 years old and resides in Liberty Township with his wife, Linda, to whom he has been married for 37 years. They have three married daughters, Casey, Ashley & Alaina. Bryon is employed as a Partner, Leader, Workplace Strategies and Senior Project Architect with Hixson, Inc., an Architecture, Engineering and Interior Design firm. Bryon has served in the adult education ministry and, along with his wife, has lead seminars and Mission trips to Honduras.




Greg Miracle  

Greg has been a partner at Center Pointe since 2008 and has served as an Elder since 2013. He is 59 years old and resides in Liberty Township with his wife, Joanne, and their 8 year old, 110 pound puppy, Wilson.  In addition to serving as an Elder, Greg has also served in Men’s Ministry, and together with Joanne, leads a small group.  He has been employed at Procter & Gamble for 28 years as a Principal Scientist.



Keith Edwards  

Keith has been a partner at Center Pointe since 1999.  He is 49 years old and resides in Liberty Township with his wife, Erin, and their two daughters, Anna (18) and Holly (17), who are currently attending Mars Hill Academy.  He is employed with BASF Corporation as the Head of Sales Management.  Keith has served for many years in different ministries at Center Pointe including Student Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry and as a Adult bible fellowship Teacher.  Keith is humbled that God has called him into this season of Eldership and counts serving the Lord as the ultimate calling in his life.



Bob Rohrbaugh  

Bob has been a partner at Center Pointe since 2009. He is 54 years old and resides in Fairfield Township with his wife, Beth.  Together, they have 5 grown children – Michelle, Alyssa, Abby, Jennifer and Tommy.  Bob has been employed at Procter & Gamble for 29 years and is currently an Associate Director in R&D. He has served for the past 7 years in the Worship Team/Tech ministry.  Bob is excited and humbled to have the opportunity to serve with the Elders to bring to life CPCC’s mission to love God radically, serve others compassionately, and lead people to Jesus.


John Weinberger  

John has been a partner at Center Pointe since 1992. He is 48 years old and resides in Liberty Township with his wife, Laura, to whom he has been married for 25 years.  John and Laura have four children – Cole (23), Abby (21), Trey (19), and Venise (16).  John is employed at Procter & Gamble as an R&D Section Head.  John has served for many years in different ministries at Center Pointe, including Worship Ministry and Small Group Leadership.
